Praise Academy of Dance Barbados is an affiliate of Praise Academy of Dance Jamaica, established by C. Patricia Noble in 1993 and Praise Academy of Dance Trinidad(2007). In 2003 Praise Academy of Dance Barbados began, and in 2004, was officially launched.
Today, led by Artistic Director, Marcia Weekes, the academy has performed in many countries, carrying a message of hope, encouragement and empowerment to their audiences while promoting Caribbean culture and the arts. Although Praise (as they are commonly known) is Caribbean based, their repertoire covers Modern, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Ballet, African and Reggae dance forms.
This inter-denominational, non-profit Christian School and Ministry, now has a roll of over 250 students with student ages ranging from 3 years to 50 years. Due to their high standard, Praise Academy is nationally recognised as a Premiere Dance Company.
The academy has received many awards at the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) including Gold, Silver, Bronze and Special awards. At the national Flame Awards, Praise copped the awards for Dance Group of the Year and Artiste of the Year.
The mission of Praise Academy, as they present the Gospel of Christ through Dance, is "Changing Mindsets through Movement."
Our theme for the year 2008 is MOVING INTO THE NEW … BEING BATTLE READY.
